Introducing Ajax!

Our first foster dog has arrived. I picked him up Friday night at a vet in Jacksonville where he had just been neutered and vaccinated. First Experience...he peed in my car! Anyway, his name is Ajax. He is a male boxer between 1 and 2 years old. He comes to us from rural south Arkansas. His owner was planning on shooting him if he wasn't taken away by the weekend. Why? Because Ajax is deaf. When I heard the owners intentions, I assumed that the dog wouldn't be in the greatest condition. I was right. The poor thing is pathetic. He is skin and bones and he has intestinal parasites. He has obviously been neglected but we think that he has also been abused. Every time a hand is raised, even for a pat, he cowers. It's worse with Jonathon than with me so it was likely a man who has mistreated him. The poor baby seems to have lost most trust in people. Still, we can see a real sweetheart in his eyes.

New beginnings.

We have decided to take the love that we have for dogs, and share it with the ones who have been less fortunate than our own. We have opened up our home as a foster home for a local, shelter-less rescue group. A dog might be with us for days, weeks, or months. We will provide him with a safe home, and everything he needs, (especially love), until he is adopted into a permanent home. Once that dog has found his forever family, we will be able to take in the next one. I have fostered orphaned newborn pups several times before, but the adults will be a different experience I'm sure(after weeks of overnight feedings, and poop poop poop, I'm always ready for a break when the puppies are finally weaned!). Yes we will get attached, and yes it will be hard when they move on, but we are going in with the goal of helping to save as many dogs as we can. Every time one gets adopted, another can be pulled from a kill-shelter, or taken off the streets. If we are able to keep that attitude, letting go will be easier.
